The next Africa Games to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea in 2019 may be managed by the Association of National Olympic of Africa (ANOCA) if current indications are anything to go bye.
“After a successful hosting the Games by Congo Brazzaville, it will be the turn of Equatorial Guinea to host under an ANOCA management,’’ Tommy Sithole, the Sec.-Gen. of the continental Olympic Movement told the Echonewsng.com.
Under the arrangement, ANOCA would be assisted by the Union of Africa Sports Confederation as its technical partners.
Sithole, however, noted that the management of the Games had continued to be a subject of discussion between the African Union (AU) and ANOCA and AASC.
“We hope an agreement will soon be reached. Our president, Gen. Lassana Palenfo has been leading the ANOCA side and he has given optimistic report about progress on the matter.
“He will be expected to give a progress report at the ANOCA Executive Committee meeting to hold in February in Bamako, Mali.’’
The Africa Games used to be run by the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA), a body that was extensively used then as the social arm of the African Unions to fight for the liberation of some African countries.
The body actively used the platform to fight, the then oppressive apartheid regimes in southern African region.
The body has since been dissolved by the AU and signed an MoU with ANOCA and AASC to run the Games. ##
