The Igbo Union in the Republic of Ireland has congratulated has congratulated Chief John Nnia Nwodo for emerging as President-General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo.
A message signed by the leader of the group, Chike Okebugwu said: “having followed your strides and leadership history, we have no doubts that you will put your vast experience to use in redirecting the fortunes of Ndigbo, now at the crossroads.
“It presents an opportunity for you to lead and etch your name in the hearts and soul of all Igbo citizens’’.
The union, then, urged the new leader to put in the front burner issues, concerning the general security in Igboland – kidnapping, killings by herdsmen, non-performance of elected leaders, stagnation, marginalisation and release of political prisoners of Igbo extraction.
The group noted that the even though issues might not be successfully tackled without active support of the common citizens, it enjoined the new Ohaneze leadership to strive to carry the masses of the people along.
“We want to seize the opportunity to call on all Ndigbo Worldwide to lend their support to the new president-general.
“It is with optimism that we believe that the President-General under John Nwodo will reposition our homeland under the umbrella of the revered Igbo forum — Ohaneze Ndigbo’’. ##
