The Zonal Director, Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC), Mr J Ugoeze has hailed the job of counsellors as important in guaranteeing future career-prospects for students.
The zonal director was represented by Mrs Ejiofor Chinyere at the Annual Forum for All Secondary Schools, under the Onitsha Zone, held at Ado Girls Secondary, Onitsha.
The director, then, underscored the importance of guidance counselling, saying it assisted students in ultimately choosing subject-combinations that facilitate pursuit of courses they wish to study.
He reiterated that appropriate choices of subjects would help to bring about appropriate choice of future careers.
“When subjects are wrongly chosen, it will affect the students negatively in the future.”
Ugoeze, a lawyer by training then, called on parents and counsellors to guide the children aright in their ultimate choices of future careers.
The director noted that factors that influence students’ career include parental, peer group, guidance counsellors and economic issues.
It was gathered that the forum was a time, when teachers and non tutorial staff to discuss problems involving academic performance of students and proffer solutions.
The Principal of the school, Mrs Ngozi Asika advised teachers to always carry all students along — the brilliant and the not so brilliant in school activities.
She, however, commended Gov. Willie Obiano, “The Alert Governor”, for his landmark achievements in the educational sector.
The occasion featured dance and drama by the students.
