Traders in Anambra have been cautioned against reconstructing illegal structures on major roads across the state.
Anambra government gave the warning as it embarked on demolition of shanties and illegal structures in various cities within the state.
A Decongestion Team constituted by government had been going round to forcefully remove illegally installed structures across the state.
The Transition Committee Chairman, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA), Mr Leo Nwuba described the ongoing demolitions as measures to restore sanity in the metropolis.
Nwuba noted that illegal structures had caused discomfort and loss of lives, stressing that it had increased death toll in the past.
“If you have illegal shops, get ready for demolition. We want to maintain free flow of traffic in Anambra. We are determined to promote cleanliness and reduce careless accidents,” Nwuba emphasised.
The Awka South Council boss added that every arrangement had been finalised to sustain decency, assuring that the Decongestion Team would work to sustain the tempo.
Nwuba enjoined the displaced traders to apply through Awka South LGA to assist them in securing alternative places. (MOI)
