Awka, Sept. 11, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Government has alerted the public, especially traders over making payments to illegal revenue collectors.
This is contained in a public service announcement issued on Sept. 6, by Commissioner for Trade and Commerce Anambra State, Dr Christian Madubuko.
The commissioner informed the public that Anambra State Government had not approved or authorized any agents/corporate bodies to collect fees and tolls in markets or business premises.
Madubuko, said that the collection of levies or fees were illegal and strictly prohibited until approved by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.
The illegal fees and the places for collections are Sanitation fees (Nnewi North); Hawkers’ Toll (Ose Market, Onitsha); Street Market Traders Development Levies (Anambra North).
Others are Hawkers Tolls (Ochanja Market); Capitation Rate (Nkpor Market); Artist Fees (Nnewi South LGA); Capitation Rate (Ochanja).
Sanitation levies from Commercial Buildings and Hospitals (Dunukofia and Ihiala); Wheel Barrow Fees (Onitsha North) and Craft Metal Tolls.
Madubuko, however, said that the Ministry of Trade and Commerce was not aware of authority letters, used by dubious agents to extort the traders.
He, then, re-assured traders, “Anambra Government is ever ready to rid all markets in the state of all forms of fraud, forgery of government receipts and illegal revenue collection’’. (MOI)
