3 to represent Nigeria at West Africa Triathlon Championships in Accra
Three athletes will represent Nigeria at a maiden West African Triathlon Championship, to hold in Accra, Ghana from Nov. 9 to Nov. 11.
The athletes are Perelate Gbagi, Williams Gbekemiye and Joy Tonjor, who have been camping for two weeks now.
They would be expected to do the country proud at the championship to rally the best tri-athletes from the sub-region.
The championship will be a sprint race to go over 750 metres, swimming covering a distance of 20 kilometres biking and five kilometre’s run for men and women.
The event according to the organisers would also feature an International Triathlon Union (ITU) Community Course for the officials of the race.
The hosts, who are organising the championship in conjunction with the Africa Triathlon Union (ATU) will provide accommodation and feeding for four athletes throughout the duration of the event.
Technical Director, Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU), Yinka Badare, who will lead the delegation, boasted that his athletes were ready to the country proud.
He noted that the event would be used to prepare them for the Africa/Pan-Arab Duathlon Championship, to be hosted in Luxor, Egypt from Nov. 14 to Nov. 27.
“We are ready for the championship in Accra and with the training the athletes have undergone in the past few weeks, it will help them to perform well in Accra,’’ Badare added. ##
