IFAD-VCDP donate farm inputs worth about N50million to farmers in Anambra East, West too

Umueri (Anambra East LGA),  Nov. 6, 2018 (MOI) Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, Mr Afam Mbanefo says Anambra State Government has stored rice seeding in Umueri for dry season farming after the floodwater subsided.

Mr Mbanefo said this while distributing food stuffs and farm inputs worth not less than N50 million to farmers affected by the disaster at the Umueri General Hospital.

The farm inputs were distributed to farmers from Ayamelum, Anambra East and West Local Government Areas (LGA) through IFAD- VCDP.

He said that the farm inputs were given to the farmers after series of appeals to the National office of IFAD-VCDP, assuring them that more interventions were coming through other agencies and stakeholders.

Mbanefo commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his interventions to the affected communities in the state.

The State Coordinator, IFAD- VCDP Mr Nnamdi Agwuncha said all the farmers would be given farm inputs in order to support them.

Igwe Ben Emeka, the traditional ruler of Umueri pleaded that bowfadamn be established in the affected areas in order to control over flow of floodwaters.

The royal father, however, urged farmers to always insure their farms in case of such natural disaster.

Mr Ralph Chigbata on behalf of Otu Udo Mmiata Rice Farmers Association thanked the IFAD-VCDP for their support, saying they have given life to lifeless.

He, then, pleaded for more support from other agencies and individuals. (MOI)
