Awka, Nov. 6, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has started the registration of Anambra residents for its health insurance scheme at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
This is sequel to the inauguration of the health scheme by Gov. Willie Obiano on Sept.14.
The exercise, which would be conducted throughout the state for 54 days, was kick-started with the registration of the Head of Service, Barr. Harry Udu.
Others registered include permanent secretaries and staff of the Head of Service, Ministries of Finance and Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The Head of Service (HOS) Mr Udu expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the registration exercise, which was seamless and ICT-driven.
He emphasised the importance of the scheme. “It is a matter that should not be taken lightly. In the order of human needs, when you take away shelter, food, the next is Medicare.
“So, it is a very serious matter,” he said
The secretary General of ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, described the health insurance scheme as a laudable initiative.
He said that 5 per cent would be deducted from salaries of those in the formal sector while others in the informal sector would pay twelve thousand naira annually. (MOI)
