Neni (Anaocha LGA), June 23, 2020 (MOI) Wife of Transitional Committee Chairman, Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA), Mrs. Rita Onyedum, has distributed COVID-19 palliative materials to market women in the 10 communities within the LGA.

The ten markets in the communities are Eke Adazi-Nnukwu, Eke Adazi-Ani, Eke Nri, Oye Neni, Oye Ichida, Oye Aguluzigbo, Oye Obeledu, Afor Agulu, Afor Akwaeze and Nkwo Adazi-Enu.

The palliative items distributed are 10 water buckets, 100 5kg bags of rice, 10 cartoons of tomatoes paste, 4 cartoons of hand sanitisers and some quantities of face masks.

Mrs Onyedum said the tour to the market was aimed at sensitising the market women about the scourge of COVID-19 and its preventive measures.

She noted that the gesture was also to compliment the efforts of the Governor’s wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano in cushioning the effect of the pandemic at the grassroots.

“I urge you to always observe all Coronavirus precautionary measures, including regular washing of hands with soap under running water, use of face mask and alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

“Always observe physical distancing, avoid handshakes and hugs and observe other personal hygiene measures,” she admonished.

She called on market leaders to place the water buckets at every entrance, being used by people entering and exiting the markets.

Mrs Onyedum pointed out that the state government had threatened to shut down any market that would not comply with all COVID-19 directives.

One of the women leaders, Mrs Anthonia Uke from Nri commended Mrs Onyedum for her kind gesture, promising equitable distribution of the items.

Mrs Onyedum also gave out two sewing machines to two widows as part of her empowerment programme.

The beneficiaries are Mrs Augustina Onuorah from Amorji village, Adazi Nnukwu and Mrs. Mary Ude from Uruoji Village, Nri. (MOI)
