Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Dr Christian Madubuko says his Ministry will be revived in order to improve its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the state. Dr Madubuko said this when he received Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on The Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
The commissioner noted that most countries like Australia depend on tourism for their income.A lot of revenue is derived from tourism in other parts of the country but here nothing is coming from tourism and that should not be so.Wherever I go I try to raise revenue for the state, for progress and provision of social amenities; here will not be an exception.I will like to work with the House Committee on The Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism order to ensure that our budget is raised to enable us to develop our tourism potential.
Anambra has a lot of natural sites and if developed will improve the tourism potential of the state.We need the support and collaboration of House Members in actualising the objectives of the Ministry.Again, through the collaboration of Nigerians in The Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abuja and the Ministry, the Ministry of Health received a Bio-Safety level 2 cabinet.The equipment was donated by Dr Leo Egbujiobi, a Cardiologist from Okija, based in the U.S.,’’ he said.
Chairman, House Committee on The Diaspora Affairs and member representing Orumba South Constituency, Mr Emmanuel Nwafor, an Engineer, congratulated the Commissioner for his re-assignment to a new office.We are here to familiarise with you and to know the areas that we will play in assisting you to actualise the objectives of the Ministry.We have great hopes that you will turn this Ministry around in a short while with the way you are approaching issues,’’ he said.Mr Nwafor promised that the committee would revisit the Ministry’s budget, noting that tourism was another source of revenue.
Present at the meeting include a member representing Anaocha 1 Constituency in the House, Mr Ebere Ejiofor, Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr Emma Umeokana.
