Chairman, Old Aguata Union (OAU), Prof. Paul Orajaka has called on Ndi Anambra to embrace zoning arrangement for political harmony as state’s Guber polls approach.It is zoning arrangement that brought present Anambra Government into power in 2014,’’ he said while exchanging views with state’s Information Officers in Akpo, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) on Aug. 3.The aim is to achieve equity among the three Senatorial Zones that make up Anambra State.
The arrangement helps to reduce political frictions as such will need to be sustained.’’The professor said: “those trying to distort the arrangement with the view that it will encourage competence `are mixing apple with oranges’.Competence is the key to political success of any state or nation. This is because when round pegs are put into round holes, they agree and work smoothly.So, if gubernatorial office is given to somebody who understands governance with good administrative antecedents, there is tendency that he or she will deliver.
These calibre of persons can be found in any of the Senatorial Zones of Anambra State.So, in my view, this zoning arrangement shall never adversely affect competence,’’ Prof Orajaka observed.It will be the turn of the Anambra of South Senatorial Zone to occupy the office in 2021.A good number of persons are qualified and competent with known antecedents to take Anambra State to enviable heights.My advice to political parties is to choose their candidates from Anambra South Senatorial Zone. It will ensure equity and political stability,’’ Prof Orajaka said.
