Government restored peace to Nanka community as Igwe Ogochukwu Ezeilo celebrates New Yam festival

Igwe Ogochukwu Ezeilo has described Gov. Willie Obiano as an epitome of peace, a man of great virtue, who has restored peace and unity to the Nanka Community.

Igwe Ezeilo said this during his 4th New Yam Festival, celebrated at his Palace (Obu Nanka) in Ifite Village, Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

“In spite of all challenges, I was made the traditional ruler of Nanka by the current Government, which has brought great peace and progress in the land, we are grateful to the,’’ he said.

He also said that the Nanka Community would “always offer its full support to Gov. Obiano as he continues to lead Ndi Anambra to the Promised Land’’.

“Today Aug. 15, is my 4th New Yam festival as Igwe Nanka and my heart is filled with Joy. I specially, thank God Almighty for protecting the people of Nanka and the community from Coronavirus pandemic. We haven’t recorded any case.’’

I also thank the people of Nanka for complying with the state Government’s COVID-19 directives.

Nanka traditional ruler stressed that all the Coronavirus pandemic precautionary measures as stipulated by the state government was strictly observed during the ceremony.

“Everyone wore wearing their face masks, there is also social distancing. Only a few people have been selected from the seven villages to avoid crowding;

“People wash and sanitise their hands before gaining entry into the ceremonial arena. We also have infrared thermometers for checking people’s temperature,’’ he said.

Igwe Ezeilo, while praying to God for continued peace, unity, development, prosperity and good health, expressed gratitude to his cabinet members, village heads, Ndi Nanka and everyone, who contributed immensely toward the success of the event.

In an interview with Information Officer, a Special Guest, Mr Ikenna Egbuna (SAN), who was honoured with a maiden chieftaincy title (Okwatuluenyi Na Nanka), expressed gratitude to Igwe Ezeilo and the people of Nanka for bestowing such an honour on him.

“I thank them for the recognition and appreciation. When they had a very big challenge, I came in and by the Grace of God, the problem was resolved. I pray for more blessings on the land,” he said.

The SAN also admonished the people of Nanka to be united and pursue peace.

President, Ohaneze Ndigbo Anambra State Chapter, Mr Damian Okeke said: “as a cabinet member, I came to support Igwe Ezeilo and to ensure that our culture is being celebrated’’.

Also Mr Paul Offia from Enugwu-Nanka Village, who also received chieftaincy title (Ofiadiuru Na Nanka) thanked God and Igwe Ezeilo for finding him worthy for such recognition and restated his commitment toward the development of the community.

President-General Nanka Patriotic Union, Mr Paul Chinedu urged the people of Nanka to continue living in peace and love, and also prayed God for blessings upon the land, thanking everyone who came to celebrate with Igwe Nanka.
