Anambra State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor has called on market leaders to be vigilant and avoid any acts, capable of worsening the current tension in the #EndSars protests in the state.
The commissioner made this call during a security briefing of market leaders on Oct. 22 at Ekwueme Square Awka, Awka.
The meeting, which lasted for just 10 minutes, was poorly attended because of security threats in Onitsha and Nkpor, as the protesting youths blocked major roads leading to Awka.
Mr Okafor urged the leaders to warn all traders not to confront the protesters or engage in any form of altercations capable of attracting destruction of markets in the state.
He told of how Igbo race survived the civil war because of trade and commerce, which still remained the only source of livelihood for the majority of Igbos.
He enjoined them to shut down the markets once they notice tension or security threats to their markets.
“Protect your stalls,’’ he said repeatedly to the traders.
