The House resolution was sequel to a motion moved Under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by Mr Nonso Smart Okafor representing Nnewi North State constituency during plenary session on March 2.
The Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor who Presided over the plenary session moved for the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.
Mr Okafor, however, sympathised with the member representing Nnewi North constituency and the victims of the disaster for the huge losses.

Giving an insight into the inferno, Mr Okafor representing Nnewi North state constituency said that the people of Nnewi were thrown into mourning because the market was a popular one.
“The timber market in Nnewi, which is known for timbers and other forms of building materials, was ravaged by fire on Feb. 17, destroying goods worth billions of Naira.
“The fire which started under controversial circumstances gutted not less than 100 shops, hundreds of sewing and curving machines worth millions of naira each, affecting no fewer than 100 traders.
“If viewed from the obvious, most of the traders have lost their only means of survival; there is therefore the need for government to intervene and support them financially,’’ Mr Okafor noted.
He expressed the need to get what actually happened so as to find a solutions to avert further fire outbreaks, saying, “it is the prayer of the traders to seek compensation to the affected traders’’.
