The Black Satellites of Ghana beat Ugandan Hippos 2-0 on Saturday to win the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.Abdul-Karim Zito’s boys claimed their fourth title at the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott, Mauritania — 12 years after they last won the U-20 AFCON.
The Satellites were too hot to handle for the Morley Byekwaso-led newbies, who had their sights set on making history by winning the tournament for the first time.Daniel Barnieh’s brace in the 22nd and 51st minutes was all Ghana needed to win the tournament.
They won their first title after beating Cameroon in 1993. The 1999 edition saw them win their second on home soil after edging the Flying Eagles of Nigeria 1-0.
Ten years later, having won the sub-regional WAFU Zone B Cup, Ghana beat Cameroon once again to lift the trophy before going on to rule the world.
In the third-place game, Gambia beat Tunisia on penalties to take home bronze.
