Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in conjunction with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abuja, organised a 5-Day Training on Capacity Building for Quality Assurance Officers for Sustainable education development.

The training which was held in Awka, had participants drawn from the 21 Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities in the state.

A total of 100 quality assurance officers were trained.

Director, Quality Assurance, ASUBEB, Mrs Ogochukwu Obi, noted that the training was geared toward improving learning in line with international best practices.

Mrs Obi said that quality assurance had been in practice in Anambra, but that the training was to further expose them to various teaching techniques.

She explained that the office, under her, was ready to follow the trend by introducing e-quality assurance facilities to replace the archaic method of monitoring, evaluation and data collection in public schools.

Mrs Obi, expressed optimism that after the 5-day training, officers would be acquainted with the use of e-quality assurance facilities for effective performance.

“This 5-day training is meant to train the officers, as vanguards of the new approach to quality assurance practices in basic education in Anambra,’’ she added.

“We will adequately equip them with the required knowledge and skills needed on the new strategies at all the LG levels in the state,’’ Obi assured.

According to her, It is expected that through this intervention, quality learning outcomes in Anambra primary and secondary (public) schools will be achieved.

She commended the Gov. Willie Obiano and the Abuja head office of the UBEB Commission for their support toward quality education at the grassroots.

In their separate remarks, Senior Assurance Officer of UBEB Commission, Abuja, Mr Vincent Agwusoro and Mrs Lillian Anyadubelu, Secretary, ASUBEB Board, said the training sought to develop new strategies and procedures to improve the quality of learning in basic schools across Anambra State. They added that the training was in response to the need to strengthen the capacity of the officers, especially at the LG levels.
