Anambra Police arrests 6 suspects, recover guns, car, tricycle

Anambra Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspected criminals involved in unlawful possession of firearms, stealing and cultism.

It recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, one Lexus 330 SUV car and two tricycles.

The Police Public Relation Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the arrests and recoveries, which were in pursuance of the Operational Strategies emplaced by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Monday Bala Kuryas, are follow:

“Acting on credible information while on surveillance duty, operatives of the command attached to Ihiala Police Division, on April 4, at about 18.20hrs, arrested one Chike Obi ‘m’, 28 years of Umudubiri Uzoakwa Ihiala and Okosisi Udeagu ‘m’, 23, of Uhuobo Okija.

“A locally-made pistol with two live cartridges was recovered from them. They both confessed to being members of a deadly cult group.’’

“Following a complaint received at Inland Police Division on March 22 that a Lexus 330 SUV got missing in a Carwash, on heritage road, Onitsha and efforts to locate the vehicle and the carwash operative had been futile.

The police operatives attached to the Division swung into action and arrested two suspects; one Pius Aidam ‘m’ of Omagba phase 2 Inland Town, Onitsha and Effiong Udeme ‘m’ of No. 47 Idore Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and recovered the said car.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the car was stolen and taken to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In another development, following series of complaints of tricycles being removed from where they were parked around the Borromeo Roundabout, Onitsha North LGA, Police Operatives attached to Inland Police Station on 30/3/2021, arrested one Isienyi Joshua ‘M’, 22 and Chinemere Emenike ‘M’, 19, and recovered two tricycles.

“They both confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate specialised in stealing tricycles within Onitsha and environs. Discreet investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang currently at large to recover other incriminating items.

“All the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations. “To this end, the Commissioner of Police, while commending efforts of the operatives, has assured that the Command will continue to carry out intensive onslaught against all forms of criminality in the state.’’
