Oluoha of ihiala celebrates, new yam festival

The traditional ruler of Ihiala, Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu Oluoha XVII and Clan head of Ihiala celebrated his new yam festival, at Odoata Primary School on Sept. 9.
In his speech to the people of Ihiala, the Oluoha said: “this year’s new yam festival will be used to promote peace, love, as well as curb social vices in the youths of Ihiala’’.
He also said that the rate of social vices in the town, including cultism, consumption of hard drugs had been on the increase but that the town had been doing everything humanly possible to curb it.
Reacting to what Oluoha said, the chairman of the new yam festival committee, Mr Chiube said that the town was working to curb social vices, hard drugs consumption among the youths.
He noted they had resolved to empower the youths, offer scholarships to those that made first class.
“And there’s provision for taking care of the indigents ones, by the wealthy ones in the town.’’
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba said that the festival was one of their highest cultural heritages to the town.
He also urged the people of Ihiala to embrace peace and love, for its upliftment .
In his sermon, during an earlier church service, with a theme: “Brotherly Love’’, Rev. Fr. Francis Joel Chimeziri urged the people of Ihiala to love themselves and propagate peace.
The occasion was graced by many dignitaries across the state.
In attendance was the Deputy Speaker of Anambra State Dr Pascal Agbodike, the running mate to APGA Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Ibezim. (MOI)
