Fegge (Onitsha South LGA), Nov.19, 2021(MOI) Anambra State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Mr Vincent Ezekwueme has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to immortalise, Nationalist, Dr Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe by declaring his birth a National Holiday.
“We plead that you complete the processes that you have started by completing his Mausoleum, in Onitsha, abandoned for many years, before your administration revived and completed the facility.
“Adopting Nov. 16 as National public holiday will go down well with many across the nation that recognise the vital role he played toward the fight to earn Nigeria’s Independence from Great Britain in 1960 as the first president of the country.
He remarked that Zik alongside other Patriots like Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo, Ahamadu Bello, Anthony Enaharo worked patriotically, selflessly and relentlessly in actualising Nigeria Independence.
“As the first Governor of Eastern Region, the Senate President, Governor-General and President (Ceremonial), deserved to be honoured with a National holiday in appreciation of his immense sacrifices and contribution toward independence and unity of the country.
“I commend FG for the completion of Zik’s mausoleum,’’ Ezekwueme said. (MOI)
