Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has said that he’s not upset regarding the recent court judgment removing him from office. On March 8, a Federal supreme court sitting in abuja ordered the removal of Umahi and his deputy, Eric Igwe, over their defection from the Peoples party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Wednesday March twenty three, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in abuja, the Ebonyi governor said it’s against the constitution for him to own been sued within the initial instance.
“I’m not upset, as a result of in the first place, there’s no constitutional provision that claims that the governor is sued. So, I’m not suable, however a court judgment could be a court judgment. I’m not interpreting it, however I will speak to the constitution and the constitution says that once you’re elected, you enjoy immunity.
As supreme court says, votes cast in an election belong to the candidates. And that’s why you’ve got qualifications of a candidate and not qualifications of a political party. So, I’m not worried.
God allowed it so where I couldn’t reach in terms of my consultation [on contesting the presidency], this case has created it possible on behalf of me to reach those places, and to truly see that Nigerians love me and they wish me and that is the reason for that.
And I want to thank the PDP and even the man that boasted that he did that hatchet job. If the people who crucified Christ knew that it might bring salvation to the full world, they wouldn’t have done that.
So, the hatchet man that boasted is like Judas Iscariot and that i haven’t any worry as a result of the constitution is obvious. I actually have confidence within the judiciary and you’ll be able to see I actually have added some weight in these few days and that i am trying a lot of handsome”, he said.
