At least ten troopers are killed and a few others lacerate by bandits proscribed as terrorists who attacked a military base in Birnin-Gwari authorities area of Kaduna State.
The incident happened at about 6:30pm on Monday, security sources told Channels tv. However, the military authorities have nonetheless to verify the attack.
Birnin-Gwari is one among the hotspots of plundering in Kaduna, wherever many people were killed, thousands were seize, and socioeconomic activities were disrupted within the past 5 years.
A security source in the area told Channels tv on Tuesday that the troopers were attacked at a military Forward Operational Base situated round the Polwire area near to Mikati Farm on the Kaduna- Birnin Gwari Road.He explained that the troopers, who were few in number, were taken unaware by the terrorists who stormed the base in massive numbers on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons and immediately opened fire on the soldiers.
According to the source, the bandits monitored the movement of the soldiers and when some of them went out to the headquarters of the Forward Operational Base located within Birnin-Gwari city, they instantly launched an attack on the few soldiers at the FOB extension.
The superior military capability of the bandits led to the death of about ten troopers, while a patrol vehicle was also destroyed during the attack.Monday’s attack followed the abduction of eleven persons by bandits who attacked Angwar Maji community at Jere city in Kagarko local government area of the state.
The attack occurred on Sunday night at the community situated near to the Abuja-Kaduna route and also the Kaduna- Bwari Road.
Residents said the terrorists struck barely a day once the military officer of Police, Usman Alkali, announced the preparation of additional troops to the Abuja-Kaduna route and surrounding communities.
