In 2014, Russian troops rolled in to Crimea and easily pushed Ukrainian troops out. Later, they moved in to Eastern Ukraine as well. But this time, in 2022, Russia is finding stiff resistance. What changed? Well, in the 8 years since 2014, Ukraine has received training and combat experience. And that makes a big difference.
Like Ukraine, Taiwan has a huge neighbor who thinks Taiwan doesn’t have a right to be a country. The big neighbor, China, has made it clear it plans to scoop up the “breakaway republic” when the time is right.
So, it only stands to reason that Taiwanese troops would learn important lessons and combat experience, in Ukraine.
There would have to be some rules of course. They could not enter the battle as “official” Taiwanese troops, that would be like declaring war on Russia. We can’t do that. These troops would need to be “volunteers.”
China knows all about “volunteers”. In Korea, when the US was pushing the North Korean Army towards the Chinese border, huge numbers of Chinese troops poured over the border. The US protested, but China claimed they had no control over them since, they were volunteers.
So maybe Taiwan could send their own “volunteers” to gain critical combat experience. Yeah, it would take a while to get them all there, but the war in Ukraine doesn’t look like it is ending soon. There’s time. This could be important to Taiwan because we’re all wondering when China will start it’s own “Special Military Operation”.
