Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo (born 8 March 1957) is a Nigerian lawyer, professor, and politician who is the current Vice President of Nigeria since 2015.
Born in Lagos in 1957, Osinbajo is a graduate of the University of Lagos and London School of Economics. He started lecturing at the University of Lagos while practicing law until late 90’s. In 1999,Prof YemiOsinbajo was appointed Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the cabinet of Lagos State Governor AsiwajuBola Tinubu. After serving during both of Tinubu’s four-year terms, Osinbajo left government in 2007 and returned to law and lecturing along with preaching as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God
Osinbajo, who turned 65 last month, is a senior advocate of Nigeria and a former lecturer at the University of Lagos. He is also a senior pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
A member of the All Progressives Congress, he previously served as Attorney General of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and holds the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
He began his public office career in 1988 as an Adviser (legal advice and litigation) to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Bola Ajibola, a position he held for four years.
The Vice-President was appointed Attorney-General of Lagos State in 1999 by then Governor, Bola Tinubu, and held the position till 2007, implementing several judicial reforms.
After the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, YemiOsinbajowas tasked with other notable Nigerians to design and produce a manifesto for the new political party. This culminated in the presentation of the “Roadmap to a New Nigeria”, a document published by APC as its manifesto if elected to power. Some of the highlights of the Roadmap included a free schools meal plan, a conditional cash transfer to the at least 25 million poorest Nigerians if they enroll children in school and immunize them. There were also a number of programs designed to create economic opportunities for Nigeria’s massive youth population
He was nominated as Buhari’s running mate in 2014 and was elected alongside Buhari in 2015. During his seven-year tenure as Vice-President, Osinbajo served as acting President for more than 120 non-consecutive days while his principal was on medical leave in London between 2016 and 2018.
