Akabueze family of Ihiala lose matriarch


The death has been announced of Lolo Paulina Akuanochie Akabueze of Ubakwuekwem, Ihiala.

The Late Lolo Akabueze, a former school teacher and headmistress, was also a well-known community and religious leader in Ihiala.

Lolo Akabueze was a mother of a veteran US-based Nigerian Journalist, Chief Austin Akabueze who made a name covering Sports and Politics while in the services of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) before switching base.

While alive, she bagged the prestigious award as a life member of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) by the Archbishop of Onitsha and also bestowed with the award of Nne-Ife by St Gregory’s Catholic Church, Ubahuekwem, Ihiala.

The late Lolo Akabueze, who passed away at the age of 92, is survived by her nine children, 38 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Amongst her other surviving Children are her daughters: Lolo Josephine Ngobili and Lolo Evangeline Okolie, both retired directors of the Anambra State Ministry of Education.

She has other daughters, Mrs Genevieve Ujubuonyi, a school headmistress, Ms Emmanuella Akabueze and Mrs Rosemary Akunjeli Nnajiofor, who is a Lagos -based businesswoman.

Chief Emmanuel Eto Akabueze, an Ihiala-based businessman, Mr DD Akabueze, a London-based businessman as well as the as Mr Ugochukwu Sylvester Akabueze, who is based in the United States.

Also among the survivors are her four daughters-in-law and four sons -in-law. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the family
