The former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has felicitated with Igwe Alfred Ugochukwu Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR, as he celebrated his 20th year on the throne at Ime Obi, Onitsha.

Igwe Achebe ascended the throne of Eze Chima on May 14, 2002, at the age of 61 and has reigned ever since then till date.

Obiano noted that this is one remarkable celebration by Igwe Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, who over these years ensured innovative leadership of the Ancient monarchy without compromising its cultural values.

According to him, Achebe has reigned with relative peace and above all in good health.

“Igwe Achebe’s leadership, which extended beyond his immediate domain has brought a lot of respect to the position of monarchy not only in Anambra State but the south East and indeed Eastern Nigeria.

“His commitment to the growth and development of political and cultural advancement has ensured the relevance of traditional institutions in the modern governance structure.

“Agbogidi has indeed developed a modern palace and ceremonial grounds with luxuriant green vegetation in line with sustainable development goals.”

He noted that Onitsha as a commercial nerve centre has remained culturally relevant in a cosmopolitan setting.

“It is indeed one of the most welcoming cities in the world. ” I must thank you most immensely as I enjoyed a very healthy work relationship with you and your subjects throughout my eight years as Governor.” (MOI)
